UNILAG Governing Council has appointed Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the 55 years old institution

The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the 55 years old institution. This is contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit, Mr Toyin Adebule. It confirmed to Tijani Faraday media team that Prof Ogundipe emerged first and his appointment was confirmed Friday October  27th, 2017 by the governing council. Before his appointment, Prof. Ogundipe was UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research. Adebule disclosed that in line with guidelines for the appointment of VC, three candidates, Prof Ogundipe, Prof Olukayode Amund, former Dean, Students Affairs and Prof Ayodeji Olukoju, former VC of Caleb Universty were nominated for final consideration by council. Miss Taofiqah Oloriegbe of Faculty of Engineering, University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, billed to graduate as a Second Class Upper student in the forthcoming 33rd convocation of the institution, has died Few days to her graduation. She only complained about having pains in her hand and later died,” one of her friends said. Reacting to her death, the Public Relations Officer of the UNILORIN, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed the death of the student through a text message. Akogun said, “The late Oloriegbe, a second class upper graduate, was billed to graduate on Saturday at the 33rd convocation of the UNILORIN. A 32 year old Ugandan woman who stabbed her husband to death in his sleep last night, has been arrested by the Ugandan Police. Acting police spokesperson, Danny Mwale, who confirmed the incident said the incident occurred after the couple had a fight. “The incident occurred on October 15, 2017 at 02:00 hours in Misisi compound in Lusaka, in which George Chavula aged 45, was stabbed twice on his back with a kitchen knife by his wife, Grace Chanda aged 32. Nigeria Popular artiste, David Adeleke, aka Davido is under fire for lying to the police that he did not know how his deceased friend, Tagbo Umeike, got to the Lagos General Hospital’s premise. Acting Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal, Wednesday, told reporters that Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footages from the hospital proved that Umeike was brought in dead (BID) by Davido’s escort driver, Tunde Usutu and two of his (Davido) friends, Agbeje Olaoye and Idris Busari. He said the men abandoned the deceased inside his ash Toyota Camry LSD378EL on the instruction of Davido. According to Edgal, Davido, his friends and the escort driver were being questioned by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Lion Building. 21,780 Kaduna teachers failed primary four Test

About 21,780 out of 33,000 teachers failed the primary four test administered to test their competence by the Kaduna State government. The state is therefore shopping for 25,000 new teachers as one of the plans to restore dignity and quality to education. Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State unveiled the planned recruitment when he received a World Bank’s delegation in Kaduna on Monday. “We tested our 33,000 primary school teachers, we gave them primary four examination and required they must get at least 75 per cent but I am sad to announce that 66 per cent of them failed to get the requirements. “The hiring of teachers in the past was politicized and we intend to change that by bringing in young and qualified primary school teachers to restore the dignity of education in the state,” the governor said.
